Dubrovnik

The old town of Dubrovnik begins with the Pile gate. On the square behind the gate, from the Onofrio fountain cold drinking water flows also in the greatest heat. The fountain has different ancient stone heads.

From the Onofrio fountain starts the Old town's main street, most of the shops sell souvenirs, but there are some interesting bookshops also. A bit further in, a market can be found, where in my opinion the candied orange peel is the best, which is a local sweet.

In the port of the old town of Dubrovnik, nowadays only small ships moor, but the city once was the rival of Venice under the name Ragusa. The bigger ships dock at the further port Gruž. On a long pier you can walk to a small lighthouse next to the benches with a view to the sea.

At the times of the Republic of Ragusa, the leader of the city lived in the Rector's palace, the rector, over the mandate of one month.
