The main sight of Keszthely is Festetics Palace.
Kristóf Festetics started to build the palace. The building has one hundred and one rooms, of these, you can visit a lot. In the palace, some Meissen porcelain is exhibited, these are one of the oldest porcelains made in Europe.
The most impressing part of the palace is the library, which is the only former noble library in Hungary, what remained nearly completly intact, beacuse after the World War II, the commander of the Russian troops there recognised the value of the library, and he had walled it up.
In the palace, several rooms are furnised with original furnitures or furnitures from that time, when the Festetics family lived in the palace. The oak staircase, decorated with portraits of members of the Festetics family, is covered with Slavonian oak, which was the most valuable oak at the time. For a visit, it is worth to spend an hour minimum in the palace.
