Essaouira

Essaouira lays about 180 km west from Marrakesh. We had taken the road by rental car. For renting a car I recommend Jacarandacar, where you can rent a car without deposit even paying with cash. The route is three hours (one way), if you do not would like to pay route charges, go along the N8 (avoid the A3 highway). The road leads through a rocky desert, as long as you can see, all is red. Close to Essaouira, argan trees grow, the argan oil is extracted from the crop. Next to the road, you can buy argan oil or argan oil based products.

The old town of Essaouira is surrounded by a city wall. From here on, every house is painted to blue and white. In Essaouira, there are lots of shops offering wooden goods, most of them are made of thuja wood. It is not worth to buy from the first shop, a few streets in, you can get much more carefully worked pieces.
